The film industry is renowned for its communication requirements – high bandwidth usage, the need for constant communication and interaction during shoots as well as international communications to head offices.

Cellular Dynamics is a Cape Town based company specializing in providing short term technology rental solutions to the film industry. They provide all communications and data requirements to 99% of all movies shot in South Africa.

Whitehead says they have now also launched Dynamic Space – a fully-fledged production office based in Johannesburg. “Our vision with Dynamic Space is to provide our clients shooting in Johannesburg with a fully equipped production office, that they can literally walk into and start the production process,” says Whitehead. “Not only does that simplify the process for them, they have the peace of mind that all their technical requirements are met before they even arrive.”

Whitehead says they have chosen to work with Neotel, South Africa’s first converged communications network operator, on both accounts, as there are a lot of synergies between the two organizations. “They’re innovative, their services run on state-of-the-art technology and they are filling a huge gap in the industry,” she says. “We believe there is also synergy in the way the two organizations treat their customers and provide a customized solution to meet their needs.”

A key requirement for both cellular Dynamics and Dynamic Space is reliability of the network. ‘Our customers know that we are on call 24/7, 365 days a year, therefore we cannot afford to have connectivity or communications issues with the network that we use,” says Whitehead. “What attracted us to Neotel is the fact that they run their own network, providing services that meet our requirements, but also reliability.”
